Lawrence County is now looking for a new Animal Control Officer.
This after the county board's Building and Grounds Committee voted Wednesday in a special session to dismiss Maggie Carter from the position.
Carter had been under fire since October of 2025 for allegation regarding her running of the department and insubordination regarding her duties.
Committee members Jordan Feutz (fights) and David Burgett both voted for termination after entering into executive session. The third committee member, Tom Robinson was not present at the session.
It was indicated after the action was taken that the Animal Control Shelter will continue to operate with current staff as usual. However, on an interim basis, the county will partner with surrounding counties for animal control duties until the position can be filled. Applications are expected to be taken soon.
