Knox County (Ind.) officials are looking for federal disaster assistance after the recent major winter storm.

They announced this week that the Emergency Management Agency (EMA) will make a request to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for public assistance to local governments to help reimburse eligible emergency response and recovery costs. Individual assistance for citizens is not being sought.

Public assistance monies would cover expenses incurred by the county, the cities of Vincennes and Bicknell and all seven incorporated towns in the county for things such as snow and ice removal, employee overtime, equipment, materials, contracted services and damage to public facilities and infrastructure.

The Knox County EMA is also working to be included in a state request for a federal disaster declaration.
