Radio station WAKO commenced broadcasting June 9, 1959, and this year celebrates its 66th anniversary of serving the public.
By mayoral proclamation, June 9, 2025 is “WAKO DAY” for the area.
Station owners Scott Huber and Johnny McCrory of 3 Towers Broadcasting Company, LLC, join listeners throughout this region in celebrating this milestone.
Morning show host Arvin Hawkins and News Director (and Voice of Lawrence County High School Sports) Steve Anderson have been with the station over 30 years, and continue to helm the morning show on 99.3 / 910 AM WAKO, “GIANT fm Country.”
They will welcome a call from a famous WAKO alum around 7:30 a.m. central on June 9: Vincennes native Dave Goodnow, easily recognized from his many years behind the anchor desk of CNN News. He will be calling in from his home in Atlanta to congratulate WAKO. He’ll reminisce about his very first broadcasting job, which began at WAKO in the fall of 1959, a mere three months after it signed on.
Darby O’Flannery handles mornings on 103.1 GIANT fm WAKO and joins the festivities that morning in recognition of this broadcasting landmark.
