An Indianapolis man was struck and killed on I-70 Monday.

Jus before 3 p.m. the Indiana State Police Putnamville Post and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department responded to a pedestrian being struck on Interstate 70 westbound near the 40-mile marker. A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2000 Chevrolet box-truck had stopped on Interstate 70 near the 40-mile marker on the right-edge line or white fog line.  The driver then exited the box-truck and was struck by a 2024 Volvo semi-tractor trailer.

The driver of the semi immediately pulled over and is fully cooperating with the investigation.

The driver of the Chevrolet box-truck has been identified by the Putnam County Coroner’s Office as Jose Efrain Serrano Serrano, 46, of Indianapolis.  As a result of the impact, Serrano Serrano sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Putnam County Coroner’s Office.

The Putnamville State Police Post was assisted by Cloverdale Fire Department, Putnam County Coroner's Office, Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, Cloverdale Police Department, and Curtis Wrecker Service.
