Detectives from the Indiana State Police Putnamville Post have been requested by Vermillion County Sheriff Mike Holcamp to investigate a shooting that occurred on January 5, near the town of Perrysville.
The incident in the 8000 block of Meridian Road in northern Vermillion County involved a shooting that left one male dead and one female with life-threatening injuries.
Just after 5:00 p.m., Vermillion County deputies responded to a 911 call of a reported shooting in Perrysville. Upon arrival, deputies attempted to make contact with any individuals located in the residence where the shooting occurred but received no response. When officers cleared and checked the residence, they discovered a deceased man and a woman with a life-threatening gunshot wound. Deputies immediately began life-saving first-aid on the female. She was later transported to a local hospital in Illinois for immediate medical care, where she currently is in critical condition.
Although the investigation is ongoing, it is believed that the shooting was a result of a domestic disturbance. Investigators have identified the deceased as Garrett Reynolds, 30, and the female victim as Tylan Leonard, 27, both of Perrysville.
The investigation is being conducted by Indiana State Police detective Colton Maynor and Sergeant Michael Featherling, with the assistance of CSI Sergeant Michael Organ of the Putnamville State Police Post.
An autopsy was scheduled for Monday.
The Vermillion County Sheriff’s Department and the Vermillion County Coroner's Office are assisting in the investigation.
This is an active and ongoing Indiana State Police investigation. Upon completion of their investigation, Indiana State Police detectives will submit a full report of the incident to the Vermillion County Prosecutor’s Office.
