Indiana November 2024 Employment Report

The unemployment rate of the State of Indiana in November was recorded to be 4.4%, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. By comparison, the national unemployment rate reported for November was 4.2%.

In addition, Indiana’s labor force participation rate is 63.4% compared to the national rate of 62.5%. This rate is the percentage of Hoosiers 16 and older who are either working or actively looking for work. Those not in the labor force include, primarily, students, retirees, and other non-working populations, such as individuals unable to work due to a disability or illness, or adults responsible for their family's childcare needs. Indiana’s total labor force stands at 3,442,250 and is at its highest on record.
 

The November unemployment figures show Marshall County ranked 50^th with an unemployment rate of 4.0.  In October the county was ranked 33^rd with a rate of 4.4%, out of the 92 counties in the state.

Looking at the counties surrounding Marshall, you will find Starke County with the highest ranking at 8 and an unemployment rate of 5.1%. In October, they were 8th with a rate of 4.8%. LaPorte County is 13th on the list with a rate of 4.9. Last month, they were 10th with a rate of 4.6%. Fulton County follows up at 17th in the state with an unemployment rate of 4.7. In October, they were 18th with a rate of 4.4%. St. Joseph County is 19^th on the list of counties with a rate of 4.7%.  In October they were 16^th on the list with an unemployment rate of 4.5.

The November unemployment rate for Kosciusko County was 4.5% ranking them 25^th.  Last month they were ranked 23^rd with an unemployment rate of 4.3%.   Elkhart County was ranked 26th in October with a rate of 4.2% and their November ranking is 29^th with an unemployment rate of 4.3%. Pulaski County is ranked 57^th for November with an unemployment rate of 3.9%.  In October they were 68^th with a rate of 3.5%.     

Howard County continues to be at the top of the unemployment list with the highest rate at 9.3%.  In October their rate was 8.7%.  Martin County has the lowest rate at 3.2. 

November 2024 total private employment is 2,869,200 a decrease of 2,800 from the previous month and 608,900 above the April 2020 Trough. This is a new Indiana private employment peak.

• Professional & Business Services (+3,100)
• Private Education & Health Services (+1,000)

As of November 28, 2024, there were 92,158 open job postings throughout the state. As of the week ending on November 30, 2024, Indiana had 20,931 continued unemployment insurance claims filed.
