Heartland Art Center will open its temporary headquarters today inside One More Chapter Books in downtown Plymouth while renovations continue on the organization's historic Montgomery Ward building.

The art center's gift shop and small gallery will be housed within the bookstore at 108 N. Michigan Street, serving as the main location for information, class registrations, and visitor inquiries staffed by Heartland docents.

The move represents a partnership with Heartland member Susan Kessler, owner of the new bookstore, which will celebrate its opening with a ribbon cutting and open house today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. An author book signing is scheduled for Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.

"This moment has reminded us just how powerful community partnerships can be," Heartland officials said in announcing the move. "Heartland is deeply grateful to the many supporters who have stepped forward to help keep the arts thriving during this transition."

During the temporary relocation, Heartland classes will be held at the Marshall County Museum Historic Crossroads Center. Beginning in April, the organization plans to host larger exhibits and classes at the historic Firehouse, thanks to partnerships with the City of Plymouth, the historic Firehouse committee, and other downtown supporters.

Several downtown merchants have also offered space for artists to display work around town, with locations to be announced soon.

The Heartland Gallery & Gift Shop will be open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
