Greenfield parents arrested for baby in need of immediate medical care

A Greenfield mother and father were jailed last week in Hancock County after officers observed a baby in need of medical attention while on an unrelated call. 

On October 10, Greenfield Police responded to a residence to locate a person connected to an ongoing investigation.  While at the house, officers reported that they observed a concerning situation involving a baby inside.

One of the adults in the home was holding a baby who appeared pale, thin, and malnourished. Recognizing the urgent need for medical assistance, Greenfield Fire Territory paramedics were immediately summoned to assess the child's condition. Upon evaluation, medics determined that the baby required immediate transport to a hospital for further medical care. The child's parents consented, and the baby was taken to the hospital.

In accordance with protocol, the Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) was contacted to meet with detectives at the hospital to facilitate the investigation and ensure the safety of the baby.

On October 31, following a thorough investigation, the parents of the baby were arrested.

Nealy Knight, 22, and Brison Phipps, 18, were both arrested on two counts of neglect of a dependent resulting in bodily injury, Level 5 felony.

The Greenfield Police Department reports that the baby has been released from the hospital and is doing well with a foster family.
