Greencastle Fire Chief Rob Frank is used to his department being busy, but it has been extremely busy as of late, according to Frank.
"We've had a streak of small fires lately. We have done 170 responses in April, which is the busiest we've been all year," Frank told The Putnam County Post.
The department recently had a fire in Edgelea, as well as responding to a fire call in Fillmore and a shed fire he believes was caused by a lightning strike.
And, with warmer temperatures right around the corner and people looking forward to barbecues and utilizing fire pits, Frank knows the busy season could continue for his department.
With that in mind, the chief has advice for citizens.
"Just make sure you are not leaving the fire unattended, have a water source to extinguish them if needed and don't burn leaves or trash in fire pits," Frank said.
The busy portion of the job doesn't just extend to fighting fires, as the Greencastle Fire Department also finds itself in the midst of finishing up a core values project and starting on a Work Performance Evaluation study, as well, according to Frank.
