Greencastle City Councilman Vincent Aguirre is on a distinguished list.
The first term councilman has been named a finalist for United Way of Central Indiana’s ELEVATE: Emerging Masterpieces awards. The award winners will be announced Feb. 21 in an event at the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields.
Tickets are available at uwci.org/elevate.
"It's truly an honor to be among such a group of Central Indiana's most engaged, young volunteers. It's hard to explain the feeling because I've never joined a board or volunteered my time or money for recognition, but it does feel great to know that I'm making an impact," Aguirre told The Putnam County Post.
Aguirre said he became involved in volunteering in 2013, becoming involved in the community.
"Leaders like the Murray's and the Eitel's were models to me personally and professionally. They, along with many other community leaders, helped me understand the importance of volunteering," he said.
Aguirre admits hes unsure how he was nominated, but he is thankful.
"I'm not sure if there was a specific moment or exactly how I was nominated. It's kind of a full circle moment though because last year I was in attendance when Alex Chamberlain was recognized as a finalist," Aguirre said.
