Gov. Braun powers growth in Indiana's skilled trades pipeline

Governor Mike Braun is building a stronger pipeline of electricians, welders and skilled trades professionals to help meet growing demand for technical talent by working with Indiana employers through the Power Up Indiana program.

"Indiana businesses need workers with the skills to build equipment, wire facilities and tackle increasingly complex challenges," Gov. Braun said. "The Power Up Indiana initiative helps employers invest in the next generation of skilled trades professionals, ensuring Hoosiers have opportunities to develop valuable expertise and grow their wages while businesses have the talent they need to grow."

Administered by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, Power Up Indiana supports employer-led training initiatives that help workers develop specialized technical skills and prepare for more advanced roles. The program encourages employers to invest in workforce development while creating new opportunities for Hoosiers to advance their careers and earn more in high-demand industries.

Jomar Machining & Fabricating, a manufacturer of industrial tire shredders, is using Power Up Indiana to expand technical training opportunities across its operation. Employees develop skills in welding, fabrication, electrical systems and machine programming, creating opportunities to move into different roles within the company as their careers progress. By developing talent across multiple disciplines, Jomar is helping employees broaden their expertise while strengthening the company's ability to perform more technical work in-house.

Professional Electrical in Goshen, Indiana is preparing the next generation of electricians through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on experience. Power Up Indiana helps enable employees to receive training in electrical theory, workplace safety, equipment operation and industry certifications while gaining practical experience in the field. The company has long invested in apprenticeship opportunities that help workers advance through the trade while building the technical knowledge and safety skills required on today's job sites.
