A Fort Wayne man was sentenced to 29 years in prison on Monday, Sept. 15, by a Miami County judge after a jury found him to be guilty of multiple felonies connected to a police shooting in January.
According to court documents, on August 21 a jury found Marco Anguiano guilty of Intimidation, a Level 5 Felony; Pointing a Firearm, a Level 6 Felony; Resisting Law Enforcement, a Level 6 Felony.
During the four-day jury trial, the jury also returned a verdict finding that Anguiano knowingly pointed a firearrn at an individual whom he knew or reasonably should have known was a police officer when he committed the offenses.
Court documents state on Jan. 7 police were led to a home at the 1600 block of State Rd 19, north of Peru, where they encountered Anguiano. Officers reported that Anguiano was armed, leading to a police shooting. Anguiano was reported to be injured during the shooting, but Indiana State Police did not provide information about the officer who fired at and wounded him.
Two other people in the home eventually exited the residence after negotiations with police, including Tisha Medina, who was found to have an active warrant on drug related charges out of Cass County at the time. Investigators later discovered a gun near the residence.
Documents state Anguiano had also just been released from prison from a separate incident 95 days prior to the Jan. shooting. Anguiano's history of engaging in juvenile delinquent and criminal conduct, including dangerous crimes and multiple violations of the rules of his community supervision added to his enhanced sentence.
