A forecast of additional rainfall in the upper Embarras River basin in southcentral and southeastern Illinois has led the National Weather Service (NWS) to extend the Flood Warning for the river at Lawrenceville.
The river is continuing to rise and is now forecast to crest about 5 feet above its 30-foot flood stage on Sunday, June 28th and then begin a steady fall to below flood on Thursday, July 2nd. Minor flooding has been occurring at areas along the river in Lawrence County near Lawrenceville.
Residents in flood prone and low-lying areas are reminded to monitor weather forecasts for additional information and be prepared to take action should waters continue to rise. Do not drive through flood water over roadways. Turn around and don't drown.
