The National Weather Service (NWS) says that the Flood Warning for the Wabash River at Vincennes remains in effect until further notice

The river early on Tuesday, August 18th was at 13.5 feet and continuing to steadily rise. It is now forecast to rise above its 16-foot flood stage late on Wednesday, August 19th and continue to steadily rise to a crest of 21.2 feet on Monday, August 24th.

At 21 feet, extensive agricultural flooding will occur in areas that are not protected by levees. In Lawrence County Illinois, the River Road is expected to flood near the river from the Lincoln Memorial Bridge at Westport south to the east edge of the town of Billett.

Motorists are reminded to not attempt to drive around barricades or drive through flooded areas. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize exactly where flooding is happening.

Keep the phrase "Turn around, don't drown" in mind when encountering roads made impassible by high water. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
