First Friday set for this Friday

It is almost time.

The First Friday celebrations, spearheaded by MainStreet Greencastle, will be kicking off on May 2 and will look to continue a downtown tradition that celebrates its 11th season this year.

According to officials, First Friday events are aimed to revitalize and preserve the economic vitality, historic character and cultural significance of Greencastle's historic city center once a month.

Kate Knaul, executive director of MainStreet Greencastle, said everyone is welcome to attend the event.

"We invite everyone to be a part of the wonderful tradition of First Friday, a hallmark of community spirit and engagement in Putnam County. First Fridays not only provide a platform for local businesses, artists and nonprofits to thrive, but also foster a deeper sense of connection and civic pride," Knaul said.

This year's events will feature a season sponsor of Ivy Tech and Prime Real Estate is set to sponsor May's event.

"The First Friday events in Greencastle are a celebration of community and partnerships, and Ivy Tech is thrilled to be part of their vibrancy. We look forward to seeing Ivy Tech alumni, students and families under the string lights this summer in downtown Greencastle," said Tammy Keenan, site director for Ivy Tech Greencastle.

With a focus of bringing residents and visitors downtown, each event features musical acts and May will feature three bands in the form of Big Fun Band, playing on the Putnam County Courthouse steps, Nantucket on the Indiana Street stage, and Black Market Vinyl at the corner of Franklin and Vine streets.
