The public can cut certain downed trees in designated areas at Turkey Run and Shades state parks for firewood daily through Feb. 28, 2026.
Cutting is not permitted on state holidays.
Trees eligible for firewood have fallen because of natural causes or have been dropped by property staff. They are along roadsides or in public areas such as campsites and picnic areas.
The cost of one pickup-truck load is $10. All proceeds will be used for resource management and restoration efforts, including replacement of trees in campgrounds and other public areas.
Permits are available at the park office on weekdays. The office is open between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Permits are available on the weekends from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the entrance gate to Turkey Run State Park.
Multiple truck loads can be purchased at the time of purchase; however, all firewood must be removed by the date that the permit has been issued.
Wood may be cut and removed between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily. For more information, 765-597-2635. Firewood from state parks is for personal use only and cannot be sold.
