The Illinois Sheriffs Association along with the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department is warning Lawrence County and other area residents to beware of a bogus text message from the Illinois Department of Motor Vehicles.
Authorities say that the texts are targeting Illinois drivers. The fraudulent text message going around claims to be from the "Illinois Department of Vehicles." It claims that the recipient has an unpaid or unpaid traffic tickets and threatens to suspend the person's driver's license and or vehicle registration unless you pay immediately.
This is a scam. The actual Illinois Secretary of State's Office never sends texts or e-mails demanding any sort of payment. Anyone getting one of these text messages should not reply and delete it immediately. Official driver's information is available at www.ilsos.gov.
