A routine traffic stop for a window tint violation led to the arrest of an Elkhart woman on a suspended license charge.
On the afternoon of February 4, Patrolman Thornton with the Plymouth Police Department initiated a traffic stop on U.S. 31 at Veterans Parkway after observing a silver Mercedes with what appeared to be a window tint violation.
Upon making contact with the driver, Patrolman Thornton determined that the operator, Desiree Montique Harris, 33, of Elkhart, had been driving with a suspended license.
Harris was transported to the Marshall County Jail and charged with Driving While Suspended-Prior.
Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is a mere allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. Those charged are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
