Southbound I-65 will close this weekend in southeast Indianapolis, the first in a series of weekend closures scheduled in June and July as construction crews complete drainage improvements beneath lanes of the interstate.
This work is part of the I-65 Safety and Efficiency project that began this spring.
With the exception of this weekend due to the NBA Finals game in Indianapolis, all closures are scheduled for 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.
I-65 Southbound Closures
• Saturday, June 14 at 5 a.m. through Monday, June 16 at 5 a.m.
• Friday, June 20 through Monday, June 23
I-65 Northbound Closures
• Friday, June 27 through Monday June 30
• Friday, July 11 though Monday, July 14

The closures extend from the I-65/I-465 interchange to the I-65/I-70 interchange and include all entrance ramps to I-65 (Keystone Avenue, Raymond Street, Morris/Prospect Street, and I-70). Traffic will be detoured using I-465 and I-70.
Hanna Avenue Bridge Closure
The Hanna Avenue overpass bridge is scheduled to close on or after Monday, June 16. Hanna Avenue will close over I-65 between Brickenwood Trace and Lasalle Street for replacement. Some overhead construction activities such as demolition and beam setting may require temporary lane closures or traffic restrictions on I-65.
The new bridge is expected to open late this fall and will include a six-foot sidewalk on the north side and a 10-foot shared-use path on the south side. The shared-use path can accommodate a future pedestrian pathway.
Actual dates and anticipated work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances occur. Drivers are encouraged to plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time, when possible.
