DCS celebrates more than 180 adoptions during National Adoption Month

November is National Adoption Month, and thus far, more than 180 Hoosier children have found their forever homes this month through Indiana’s adoption program .

The Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) works alongside the courts, Firefly Children and Family Alliance, court appointed special advocates (CASA) and other community partners to celebrate National Adoption Month.

Across the state, many courthouses and DCS local offices have held special Adoption Day events to celebrate and finalize newly formed families. In courthouses, celebrations have been filled with tears of joy and concluded with the echoes of adopted children banging the gavel as family members enveloped each other in hugs. In DCS offices, staff have said bittersweet farewells to children with whom they’ve worked closely.

“Adoptions are special days for children and families, but they’re also special days for our family case managers who’ve worked so hard to make sure a child finds a safe, loving, forever home,” said DCS Director Krupp. “It’s an honor and a privilege to be a part of these celebrations, and we’re so grateful for our families who have grown through the selfless act of adopting.”

Adoption Day celebrations occurred in Marion, Allen, Delaware, Tippecanoe, Hamilton, Lawrence, Madison, Lake, St. Joseph, Spencer, Monroe, Wells, Clark and Jennings counties, where formal courtrooms were filled with balloons, goody bags and themed decorations.

In Allen County, 30 DCS adoptions were finalized in courtrooms decorated in a Candyland theme. Adopted children were also given gift bags and toys to celebrate their big day.

Many children are still waiting to find their forever home. DCS encourages anyone who is able to provide safety, support and love to consider adoption. Even if your plans don’t include adoption, you still have the power to raise awareness and help Hoosier children find safe, loving forever homes.
