Culver leaf pick-up gets underway

Fall has arrived, and with that, the leaves are falling.

With the nice weather this weekend, leaf piles are beginning to accumulate, and the Culver Street/Utilities Department is ready to pick them up.

Beginning today, the Culver Street/Utilities Department will pick up piles of leaves raked to the curb. The town asks that you please place leaf piles as close to the road as possible, but do not place them in the road. The truck Culver uses to pick up the leaves has a vacuum hose, but it only extends so far, so if you notice a nice line of remaining leaves, they were outside of the arm’s reach.

Branches and sticks need to be pulled out of any leaf piles and set them in a separate pile so that they do not get sucked up with the leaves and clog the hose.

Culver also asks residents not to rake their leaf piles into the streets. When that happens, they get run over and matted down, which makes it difficult to collect them all. They also cover storm drains, slowing down drainage and causing backups.

The Culver drivers will run a route through town, and once completed, they will start over, so they should pass by properties at least once a week.
