County officer arrests Illinois man for possession of marijuana

Officer Wozniak with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department arrested an Illinois man following a traffic stop on Tuesday, April 16th.

At 1:19 in the morning Officer Wozniak initiated a traffic stop on a gray 2024 Chevrolet SUV in the area of U.S. 30 and Pioneer Drive.

During the investigation, the officer detected a strong odor of marijuana emitting from inside the vehicle. A probable cause search was completed, and the officer located suspected marijuana.

The driver, 32-year-old Darius M. Boyd of Palatine, IL, was taken into custody and transported to the Marshall County Jail. He was processed for possession of marijuana and held on a $250 cash bond. His cash bond was paid at 2:15 a.m. and he was released on bond.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
