A petition for the authority to increase the annual maintenance assessment of a local drainage district has been filed in court.
The action was taken by the commissioners of the Big Slough Drainage District located in Lawrence County. The proposed assessment of just over $32,100 will provide funds for required services including recurring maintenance work, flood control studies, bank stabilization projects, and drainage alternatives which would protect the environment and wildlife and help to avoid pollution and erosion of the land, water and air.
A public hearing on the proposed petitioned increase is scheduled for Friday, October 31st at 9 a.m. CT before the Lawrence County Circuit Court at the Lawrence County Courthouse in Lawrenceville.
