The Indiana Department of Transportation announces chip seal operations in Vigo, Clay, Owen, and Greene Counties, beginning on or after Monday.
Crews will be chip sealing in the following locations:
State Road 63 (Prairieton Road) - Between S.R. 246 and Lombardi Drive, located just south of the United States Penitentiary
State Road 157 - Between Clay City (14th Street) and S.R. 48 near Worthington
After the completion of the chip seal operation, crews will begin fog seal operations which will last approximately two days, weather-permitting. Once complete, crews will chip seal in the following location:
State Road 46 - S.R. 641 to S.R. 59
Crews will place message boards at the end of the project, to alert the traveling public INDOT suggests finding alternative routes during the short duration of the chip sealing operation.
Work is completed under lane closures with flagging, or a full closure, to prevent damage to both vehicles and the roadway. During operations, existing pavement is coated with liquid asphalt, which seals cracks and provides waterproof protection.
