In a story that proves truth is stranger than fiction, two Plymouth women found themselves behind bars on Wednesday afternoon after a domestic dispute that began over something truly precious: chicken nuggets.

On Wednesday, August 19th, at 3:10 p.m., Plymouth Police were dispatched to Skylane Drive for a report of a domestic fight. When Officer Mark arrived on the scene, he identified the two parties involved — Melissa Novak, 53,

and Emily Fischer, 27, both living at the same Skylane Drive address.

The investigation revealed the source of the conflict: Fischer had eaten several chicken nuggets belonging to Novak. Yes, you read that correctly. Chicken nuggets. Those golden, crispy, irresistible little bites of poultry perfection that have been known to start arguments at dinner tables across America — but rarely land someone in jail.

A confrontation ensued over the purloined nuggets, and things escalated quickly. Novak was transported to the Marshall County Jail and charged with domestic battery. Fischer was also transported to the Marshall County Jail, where she was booked for interfering with the reporting of a crime and criminal mischief.

Both women were held on $500 cash bond.

So the next time you're tempted to swipe a nugget off someone else's plate, remember this cautionary tale from Plymouth. Those nuggets might look harmless, but they come with a $500 price tag — and a one-way ticket to the Marshall County Jail.

Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
