Cataract Lake Community Center needs public’s help

It truly is dire straits for the Cataract Lake Community Center, according to the organization’s leaders.

The center, which is a non profit organization run entirely by volunteers, is asking for the public’s help in keeping the doors open and the lights on. The organization recently got assistance with keeping the utilities covered for the first six months, but there is still more work to be done in order for the organization to continue carrying out its mission.

“We are powered solely by donations, which allows us to serve our local communities through essential programs, emergency food support, and by keeping our Blessing Box fully stocked. Our mission is simple: to support and uplift our neighbors. But none of this is possible without the involvement and generosity of our community. Whether it's through financial support or donating a few hours of their time, Their contribution makes a real difference. Right now, we’re especially in need of volunteers and school supply donations for our Back-to-School Supply Drive. Every pencil, backpack, and notebook helps prepare a child for a successful school year,” president Patricia Chappell told The Putnam County Post.

The Cataract Lake Community Center has some lofty goals, according to Chappell. Those goals include: securing grants to provide computers and internet access for job searching and education, launching youth outreach and tutoring programs, offering food and diaper assistance to families in need, and hosting fun and inclusive events to the community.

“But, we can’t do it alone. We need the community to get involved, spread the word and help us build a stronger, more connected community together,” Chappell said.
