Hoosiers looking to complete their voter registration application for the upcoming general election on Tuesday, November 3rd, at an Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles branch must do so by Monday, October 5th.
The Indiana BMV provides free, state-issued ID cards for voting purposes to any unlicensed Hoosier who is a U.S. citizen, can provide proper documentation, and will be at least 18 years of age on or before the next general or municipal election.
To obtain a new state ID card or driver's license, the following documents are required:
- Proof of Identity — such as a birth certificate or U.S. passport
- Proof of Social Security Number — such as a Social Security card, pay stub, or W-2
- Proof of lawful status — such as a birth certificate or U.S. passport
- Two documents proving residency — such as a utility bill or bank statement dated within the last 60 days
If your name has been legally changed and differs from your identity documents, proof of the name change must also be provided. A complete list of acceptable documents is available on the BMV's website.
