During a recent Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety meeting, Councilman Jeff Houin wanted to clarify the “best practices” for having large items pick-up by the city’s trash hauler, Republic Services.
While Republic has always offered a FREE, monthly, one-item large item pick-up, citizens had to call and schedule it. Beginning on February 6th, Republic changed the procedure from calling and scheduling to always having it on the first Monday of each month without the need to schedule it.
Houin said, “Even though they published you are not required to call to schedule it (a large item pick-up) if you don’t call and tell them, then they may not know to come down your street and may not pick up your large item.”
Councilman Houin said that as a benefit to the public, even though you are not supposed to have to call, it’s a good idea to call if you are putting a large item out for pick-up.
Mayor Senter said to call the Burr Oak number and not the national call center in Phoenix. The number to call is 574-842-4719.
Large items must be placed at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on the first Monday of each month. If you have more than one large item that needs to be picked up, you will need to contact Republic Services at 574-842-4719 to make arrangements.
