Shelbyville’s Tripp Garner and Brady Bryant made quick work of their first opponents Saturday at the New Castle Semistate.
Garner, wrestling at 126 pounds, pinned South Dearborn’s Jayden Coy in 38 seconds to reach the quarterfinal round.
Bryant joined Garner in the “ticket round” with a 63-second pinfall win over South Dearborn’s Zander Schaefer at 157 pounds.
The semistate quarterfinal round, or the ticket round, is where wrestlers punch their ticket to the IHSAA State Finals.
Garner was defeated 17-8 by Noblesville’s Brody Weimer to close out his junior season at 38-5.
Bryant, a senior, ended his Golden Bears’ career with a second-round pinfall loss to Indianapolis Bishop Chatard’s Jack Davis. Bryant was 34-7 this season.
