Prep Report: Waldron tennis takes down Shelbyville

Waldron tennis produced an early statement win Monday with a 4-1 victory over Shelbyville.

At Waldron, the host  Mohawks swept the doubles matches and produced straight-set wins at No. 1 singles and No. 3 singles.

At No. 1 singles, Charlie Fischer defeated Shelbyville’s Kashton Laycock, 6-1, 6-1.

Noah Leap secured a No. 3 singles win over Kody Sellers, 6-3, 6-2.

At No. 1 doubles, Jackson Kuhn and Caige Sheaffer bested Jack Van Wye and Cooper Reed, 6-4, 6-2.

And the No. 2 doubles pairing of Owen Hartman and Kevin Crouch topped Grant Tackett and Owen Shively, 6-2, 6-2.

Shelbyville’s only win came at No. 2 singles where Bram Kolkmeier defeated Lincoln Fischer, 5-7, 7-5, 11-9.

Waldron improved to 3-1 this season.

The Golden Bears dropped to 1-2.

Girls golf

Shelbyville 224, Rushville 247, Connersville Inc.

At Arbor Crossing Golf Club, Shelbyville produced four of the top five scores to seal the victory.

Hana Stenger was the medalist with a 54. She closely followed on the Golden Bears scorecard by Julie Garrison (55), Sophia Bragg (57) and Lilly Huesman (58).

Boys soccer

Southwestern 2, Franklin 2

At Franklin, the host Grizzly Cubs led 2-0 at halftime but goals by Bruce O’Brien and Ethan Sipes even the score and forced a tie.

O’Brien scored off a Jayden McGuire assist with 20:39 to go in the second half. Sipes’ goal came with 7:06 on the clock.

Southwestern is 1-1-2 this season.

Franklin dropped to 0-2-1.

Oldenburg Academy 4, Triton Central 0

At Oldenburg Academy, the Twisters scored a trio of second-half goals to defeat the Tigers.

With the loss, Triton Central is 1-2-1 this season.

Girls soccer

Heritage Christian 6, Triton Central 0

At Triton Central, the visiting Eagles built a 2-0 lead by halftime then scored four second-half goals to seal the win.

The Tigers dropped to 2-2.
