Prep Report: Shelbyville swimming sweeps Trinity Lutheran, falls to Greenfield-Central

Greenfield-Central secured first-place points in all 24 events Thursday at Shelbyville to defeat Trinity Lutheran and the host Golden Bears in dual swim meets.

In the boys meet, the Cougars prevailed over Trinity Lutheran, 152-4, and over Shelbyville, 140-39.

Anderson Mollenkopf finished third for Shelbyville in the 200-yard freestyle (2:19.1) and runner-up in the 100 backstroke (1:05.39).

Everett Stegemiller placed third in the 100 butterfly (1:03.41).

And Brody Jeanette finished second in the 50 freestyle (24.27) and second in the 500 freestyle (5:18.06).

Jeanette, Mollenkopf, Stegemiller and Luca Kinker scored Shelbyville a runner-up finish in the 400 freestyle relay (3:49.44).

Shelbyville defeated Trinity Lutheran, 122-5.

In the girls meet, Greenfield-Central topped Trinity Lutheran, 153-11, and Shelbyville, 135-45. The Golden Bears defeated Trinity Lutheran, 85-19.

The Golden Bears opened the meet with a runner-up finish in the 200 individual medley. Naomi Garringer, Anne Marie Fansler, Riley Everette and Ana Felipe clocked 2:13.28.

Fansler finished second in the 200 freestyle (2:19.15) and third in the 100 freestyle (1:02.46).

Everette placed third in the 200 individual medley (2:25.37) and the 500 freestyle (5:56).

Chloe Claxton amassed 171.2 points to finish second to Greenfield-Central’s Cerenity Minchin (174.15) in the diving competition.

Garringer was runner-up in the 100 backstroke (1:12.56).

Meeghen Bushfield scored second-place points in the 100 breaststroke (1:19.76).

Garringer, Bushfield, Paige Bohman and Everette finished second in the 200 freestyle relay (1:49.84).

Girls basketball

Shelbyville 63, Whiteland 53

At Garrett Gymnasium Wednesday, sophomore Jayla Ash scored a career-high 25 points, including nine in the fourth quarter, to improve the Golden Bears to 11-8.

Ash did not score in the opening quarter while Shelbyville built a 14-5 lead. She had 12 points in the second quarter to get the Golden Bears to halftime up 29-22.

Savannah Collins scored eight of her 16 points in the third quarter as Whiteland moved a little closer to 47-41.

Sophia Dyer led the Warriors (5-15) with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Bryanna Gillock finished with 11 points and eight rebounds.

Shelbyville has two remaining Hoosier Heritage Conference games on its schedule. The first is Saturday at 1 p.m. against Delta (15-6, 3-2 HHC).

Morristown 53, Hauser 46

At Hauser Thursday, the visiting Yellow Jackets led 18-12 at halftime then used a 20-point third quarter to get the separation they needed to secure the Mid-Hoosier Conference win.

Morristown improved to 10-9 (3-3 MHC). Hauser dropped to 11-9 (2-3 MHC).

Morristown will play its final regular season game Monday at Knightstown (12-6).
