Prep Report: Shelbyville soccer defeats Beech Grove in penalty kicks

Beech Grove scored early and late in the first half but it was not enough to deny Shelbyville another Hoosier Legends Conference soccer victory.

Jefferson Lopez and Robert Crick staked the Hornets to a 2-1 lead at halftime Thursday at Shelbyville.

Joao Rivera scored quickly after the first Hornets’ goal and converted a penalty kick in the second half.

The conference clash went through two scoreless overtime periods and penalty kicks followed.

Keagan Pile, Tonny Avila, Ace Caldwell and Rivera all converted penalty kicks to get Shelbyville the win 2-2 (4-2 PKs).

Shelbyville improved to 5-7 overall and 3-3 in the HLC standings.

Girls golf

Shelbyville 197, Greenfield-Central 205

At Blue Bear Golf Course in Shelbyville, Sophia Bragg carded a personal-best round of 44 to collect the medalist honor and lead the Golden Bears over the Cougars.

Julie Garrison followed Bragg with a 48 and Hana Stenger shot 49. Harper Adams, Lilly Huesman and Maddie Clapp each shot 56.

North Decatur 222, Southwestern 262, Edinburgh Inc.

At Timbergate Golf Course, North Decatur’s Mary Spier was the only golfer to break 50. Spier posted a 48 to earn the medalist honor and lead the Chargers to the win against a pair of Mid-Hoosier Conference foes.

Kaylee Pike led Southwestern with a 62. Izzy Andrews and Addalynn Johnson each shot 66. Georgie Taggart completed the Spartans’ scorecard with a 68.

Sofia Pace led Edinburgh with a 57.

Boys soccer

Speedway 9, Triton Central 0

At Speedway, the visiting Sparkplugs remained unbeaten against HLC opponents with its third shutout victory of the season.

Speedway improved to 6-5 overall and 5-0 in the HLC standings.

Triton Central fell to 2-10-2 (2-4 HLC).

Morristown 4, Franklin County 1

At Franklin County, Jaxson Willard scored three goals and assisted on a fourth to improve the Yellow Jackets to 2-6-1.

Logan Schultz had the other goal for Morristown.

Landen Rinzel was credited with 11 saves in goal.

Franklin County dropped to 0-8-1.

Girls soccer

Batesville 4, Shelbyville 0

At Batesville, the host Bulldogs scored three first-half goals and shut out the Golden Bears to improve to 11-0 this season.

Freshman Elia Wade scored twice for Class 2A, No. 6 Batesville. Adie Reding and Hailey Weisenbach tallied the other two goals.

The Golden Bears dropped to 6-5 this season.

Triton Central 3, Speedway 1

At Triton Central, the Tigers secured the HLC victory and netted head coach Matt Roberts career win No. 100 with the program.

Rylee Pruitt scored a pair of goals and Maddie Burnett found the back of the net for Triton Central.

Triton Central improved to 6-5 (3-2 HLC).

Speedway fell to 2-9-1 (1-5 HLC).

Boys tennis

Shelbyville 3, Indian Creek 2

At Indian Creek, with a three-set win at No. 3 singles, Shelbyville swept all three singles matches to defeat the Braves and remain atop the HLC standings.

Kody Sellers defeated Lochard Rainwater, 3-6, 6-0, 6-3 to improve to 4-5 this season.

At No. 1 singles, Kashton Laycock topped Nolan Weir, 6-0, 6-4. Bram Kolkmeier rolled past Abram Wiseman, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.

Indian Creek won both doubles matches in straight sets.

Shelbyville improved to 10-5 overall and 5-0 against HLC opponents.

Triton Central 5, Greenwood 0

At Greenwood, the visiting Tigers won all five matches in straight sets to improve to 10-5 this season.

At No. 1 singles, Brayden Hoover defeated Vaughn Shippnick, 7-6 (5), 6-2.

Bradyn Robinson and Drayton Kermode lost six games total while winning the other two singles matches.

Graham Gast and Cash Eck defeated Beau Syers and Will Shaffer at No. 1 doubles, 6-4, 6-3.

Colton Ayres and Owen Rice bested Nolan Curtis and Coen Whitson at No. 2 doubles, 6-0, 6-4.

Waldron 3, Connersville 2

At Connersville, the Mohawks swept the doubles matches and got a key win at No. 3 singles to steal the road victory.

At No. 1 doubles, Jackson Kuhn and Caige Sheaffer secured win No. 14 this season with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Evan Miller and Grady Simpkins.

Owen Hartman and Wyatt Armstrong defeated Angelo Amora and Eli Laughlin, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (1) at No. 2 doubles.

Noah Leap needed three sets to top Abel Parsley at No. 3 singles, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

At No. 1 singles, Connersville’s Anthony Struewing defeated Charlie Fischer, 7-5, 6-3.

Jay McMullen defeated Lincoln Fischer at No. 2 singles, 7-6 (5), 6-1.

Beech Grove 3, Southwestern 2

At Beech Grove, the Spartans’ wins came from Brinnyn Moss and Kentley Gosser and No. 1 and No. 2 singles.

Blue River Valley 3, Morristown 2

At Morristown, Eli Graves earned a win for the Yellow Jackets at No. 1 singles and the No. 1 doubles pairing of Ruston Kleine and Mitchell Ronan were victorious.

Volleyball

Shelbyville def. Indian Creek, 25-23, 21-25, 25-21, 25-20

At Indian Creek, Jordyn Noe had 13 kills and nine digs and Maggie Kolkmeier and Lyla Wilson each had 11 kills.

Hayden Ricketts (19 digs), Addy Marshall (12 digs) and Chloe Caldwell (10 digs) each had double digits dig totals.

Marshall finished with 48 assists.

The Golden Bears improved to 13-5 (5-2 HLC).

The Braves fells to 7-9 (3-4 HLC).

Morristown def. Waldron, 25-22, 25-13, 25-15

At Morristown, Maleah Williams had 10 kills, two service aces and six digs in the loss for Waldron (10-8, 2-1 MHC).

Abby Crouch had a team-high seven digs. Ashlyn Ramsey finished with 10 assists.

The Yellow Jackets improved to 12-4 (4-2 MHC).
