Aspiring Shelbyville boys’ basketball players in grades one through eight participated in last week’s three-day annual summer camp at the SHS auxiliary gymnasium.
A total of 94 players took part in daily sessions that focused on basketball fundamentals through ball-handling drills, shooting competitions and full-court scrimmages.
“Many of these players have been coming to camp for five and six years now and the progress is evident,” said Golden Bears varsity basketball coach John Hartnett, now entering his seventh season. “Our summer camps and clinics and our Shock program are paying dividends for the basketball program.”

Several Golden Bears who assisted the SHS coaching staff in conducting the camp are camp alumni.
“I remember camp as a fun time where I learned a lot,” said rising sophomore Camden Thoman, who played the role of sixth man as a freshman on last year’s 19-6 SHS team. “I get satisfaction assisting with camp now as a varsity player.”

Camp “Knockout” competition winners were Liam Rund (1st and 2nd grade), Kleeten Moore (3rd grade), Myles Huffman (4th grade), Tripp Heath (5th grade), Logan Carmony (6th grade), Cameron Wheeler (7th grade) and Tate Greene (8th grade).
The basketball program will conduct additional clinics at the SHS auxiliary gymnasium for boys entering grades 2-6 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on the following dates:
- Tuesday, June 9
- Tuesday, June 16
- Thursday, June 25
- Tuesday, July 7
- Tuesday, July 14
There is no fee or pre-registration required for the clinics.
