One of the most successful football coaches in Vermillion County has left again, this time to take over a program in a neighboring county.

Veteran coach Brian Crabtree has left North Vermillion to take over the head football job at West Vigo High School, pending Vigo County School Board approval. The North Vermillion High School athletics site has "vacant" for its head football coaching position, and attempts to reach Crabtree for comment were unsuccessful.

The 2025 season saw a return to the North Vermillion sidelines for Crabtree, who took the 2024 season off. In 2024, the Falcons went 9-2 under then coach Andrew Rodriguez, who left to become the defensive coordinator at Western Boone. The 2025 season was anything but kind to Crabtree and the Falcons, who dealt with small numbers the entire season, finishing 0-10 and averaging just over eight points a game.

West Vigo, on the other hand, also went 0-10 last year and has not experienced a winning season since 2020.

In 13 seasons at North Vermillion, Crabtree went 108-48, winning five sectional titles, three regionals, two semi-states and won the Class A state title game in  2014.
