Martha Swaim Ransom, 92, of Rockville

Martha Swaim Ransom, 92, of Rockville, Indiana, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Westminster Village in Terre Haute.

She was born January 4, 1933, in Montezuma, Indiana, to the late George Peterson and Marian Brodie Peterson.

Martha worked at Medline sewing factory in Covington, C.A.R.S. (Child Adult Resource Services), the Red & White Grocery Store in Kingman and Lee Alan Bryant Healthcare Facilities.

Survivors include four children, Carolyn (Mike) Steffy of Veedersburg, Steve (Carol) Swaim of Veedersburg, Connie Nixon of Rockville, and Chris (Curtis South) Freed of Cayuga; 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ray Swaim; her second husband, Marion Ransom; one sister, Marilyn Parker and three brothers, Georgie, David, and Jim Peterson; two sons-in-law, Paul Freed and Rick Nixon; grandchildren, Steve Swaim and Stephanie Stover; and in-laws, Ralph, Sr. and Callie Swaim and Rex and Mabel Ransom.

Martha attended Howard Presbyterian Church, where she also raised her children in the faith. She loved to sew and cook, and was known for her strong work ethic, kind spirit, and love for her family and community.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 28 at Gooch Funeral Home,1 12 W. Howard Street, Rockville with Pastor Steve Crum officiating. Burial will follow at Tangier Cemetery. Visitation will be 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
