LaVerne Oesch Hartzler-Moon, 90

LaVerne Oesch Hartzler-Moon, 90, passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2026. Born on August 7, 1935, in Topeka, Indiana, LaVerne was the youngest of eight children (all preceded her in death) of the late William and Goldie (Garber) Oesch.

On September 2, 1961, she married Quentin Hartzler, who preceded her in death in 1985. LaVerne married Everett Moon on November 19, 2005, and he preceded her in death in 2021.

LaVerne was a graduate of Wawaka High School and attended Manchester College. She retired from Caston School Corporation after 23 years working as an administrative assistant and bookkeeper. LaVerne was a member at Twelve Mile United Methodist Church and later Skinner Chapel. She was a member of the 4-H Home Economics Club and served on the board of Weekday Religious Education for many years. LaVerne enjoyed gardening, reading, and spending time with her family.

LaVerne is survived by her children, Susan Hartzler, Logansport, Kim (Mark) Mader, Magnolia, Texas, Sheryl (Jim) Baird, Twelve Mile, Rick (Heidi) Moon, Logansport; and her much loved grandchildren, Reegan Homburg, Kellen Homburg, Justin Mader, Annamarie Mader, Danni Crane, Dallis Garber, Macie Fisher, Myleigh Moon, Makenzie Bennett; and great-grandchildren, Natalie Crane, Grayson Garber, Griffin Crane, Tucker Garber, and JD Fisher.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Weekday Religious Education, c/o McClain Funeral Home, PO Box 248, Denver, indiana 46926 (In Memory of LaVerne Hartzler-Moon on check memo line). Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 4-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at McClain Funeral Home, Denver, Indiana.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at McClain Funeral Home, 3500 West State Road 16, Denver, Indiana, with Pastor Ulises Sosa officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Twelve Mile.
