Jeffrey “Jeff” James Johnson, 63, formerly of Rochester, passed away at his home in Bourbon on September 16, 2026, following a brave and valiant battle with cancer.
Born on November 2, 1962, in Rochester, Jeff was born. He was the treasured son of James “Jim” Johnson and Winette (Eriks) Johnson. Jeff spent his childhood years in the company of his sister and brothers. He was a member of the Rochester High School with the Class of 1982. He later became the father of two sons, Colt Anthony Johnson and Dustin James Stahl.
With a strong work ethic, Jeff will be long remembered for his dedication to his farming endeavors, including raising livestock and crops of corn and hay, tending his horses, cattle and hogs, as well as a few llamas with great care and a watchful eye. A man with an entrepreneurial and hard-working spirit, he was known to involve himself in real estate and rentals, as well as a car lot. When time allowed, he would be found tinkering on cars and taking to the highway on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. One of Jeff’s special interests was his love for classic cars, especially his 1967 Chevy Chevelle.
Survivors include: his sons, Colt Anthony Johnson of Bourbon and Dustin James Stahl of Georgia; Mary Thacker, mother of Colt and life-friend to Jeff; grandsons, Conner A. Laskowski, Gradyn James Johnson, Kyree Paul Johnson; sister, Joni Thiry, Rochester; brothers, Jerry Joe Johnson of Warsaw, Dwayne Vanderwall (Beth), Todd Vanderwall (Kathy), Scott Vanderwall, all of Rochester; his mother, Winette Johnson; several nieces and nephews.
Friends are welcome to gather with the family for graveside services on Friday, October 2, at Richland Center Cemetery, northwest of Rochester beginning at high-noon (12:00 p.m.)
