Darlene E. (Christensen) Snyder, 83, of Plymouth

Darlene E. (Christensen) Snyder, 83, of Plymouth, Indiana, passed away on June 28, 2026. She was born on March 18, 1943, in Evergreen Park, Illinois, and lived a life marked by devotion to her family, her students, and the many simple joys that brought her happiness.

Darlene was the beloved wife of Jay Snyder, whom she married on May 10, 1964, at Culver Emmanuel Evangelical United Brethren Church. Their marriage was a lasting partnership filled with love and shared memories until Jay’s passing on December 30, 2002. She was the cherished daughter of the late Arnold Rudolph Christensen and the late Evelyn Ruth (Barr) Christensen. She was also preceded in death by her son, Christian Jay Snyder, and her brother, Dennis Christensen. She is survived by her son, Mark Brian Snyder; her grandsons, Tyler Jay Snyder and Trenton Wayne Snyder; her sister-in-law, Ellen Christensen; her niece, Kelly Smutzer; and her great niece, Hannah Levendowski.

Darlene graduated from West High School in Plymouth with the Class of 1961. She continued her education at Ancilla College and then went on to earn both her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Indiana University. She valued education deeply and carried that appreciation into her career and daily life. For more than 20 years, she taught fourth grade at Jefferson Elementary, where she touched the lives of countless children with her patience, encouragement, and steady dedication. Her students remembered her as a caring teacher who believed in them and took pride in helping them learn and grow.

A true history buff, Darlene especially enjoyed Indiana history and loved learning about the past. She found great pleasure in reading books and the National Enquirer, and she was always interested in stories that captured her attention. She took great pride in her “Red House Farm”, which reflected the warmth and character that defined her home and her life. She enjoyed caring for her flower gardens, traveling with friends and family, and spending time with the people she loved. Birds and angels held a special place in her heart, and she especially enjoyed listening to Elvis. One of her most meaningful experiences was her trip to Denmark, where she connected with the family lineage from which she came. Most importantly, Darlene was deeply committed to her faith; you could often catch her at the First United Methodist Church in Plymouth.

Darlene will be remembered for her strong spirit, her love of family, and the many ways she made life brighter for those around her. She lived with grace, curiosity, and a deep appreciation for her roots. Her legacy lives on in the family she loved, the students she taught, and the memories shared by all who knew her.
