Daniel “Dan” D. Severns 82, of Akron, Indiana, passed away at 4:15 P.M. Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at the Center for Hospice, Mishawaka, Indiana.
He was born on March 10, 1944 in Monahans, Texas, the son of Dean Harold and LuEdith Minerva (Baker) Severns.On May 1, 1964 he married Rita J. Owens. She preceded him in death on January 9, 2019.
Dan had worked as a mechanic throughout his career working for Gagnon Chevrolet and Gaerte Engines. He was a member of the Beaver Dam Community Church, had been a member of the Lions Club and active member of the Blacktop Cruisers Car Club. He enjoyed collecting cars, restoring cars and participating in garden tractor pulling competition.
Survivors include his daughter, Cynthia Witherby, Berryville, Arkansas, grandchildren, Kaley Starr (Garrett) Branaman, Mountain Home, Arkansas, Samantha Lynn Witherby (Shawn) Robison, Fort Smith, Arkansas, daughter-in-law, Amy Severns, Rochester, Indiana, sister, Linda Heighway, Akron, Indiana, brother, Terry Severns, Rochester, Indiana, uncle, Ben Severns, Rochester, Indiana, sister-in-law, Nancy (Ray) Temple, Arizona, brother-in-law, Danny Owens, Bloomington, Indiana, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, Jack Severns, son, Brian Severns, brother, Gary Severns, son-in-law, Mark Witherby, sisters-in-laws, Lorraine Severns and Janet Severns and brother-in-law, Ned Heighway.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Monday, August 31, 2026 at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester, Indiana.
Friends may visit from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Athens Cemetery, Athens, Indiana.
