A Knox County deputy was shopping when he spotted a man wanted on warrants.
Just before 2 p.m. Friday, an off-duty Knox County Sheriff deputy was shopping at Dunham's Sporting Goods located in the plaza at 6th and Niblack Boulevard in Vincennes when he recognized a maN he knew to be Dawson Kelm. The deputy was aware that Kelm had two active warrants out of Knox County. The deputy called on-duty deputies to the store.
Dawson was in a changing room in the store when the additional deputies arrived. They approached Dawson and told him about the warrants. Dawson then attempted to run away. Deputies chased him throughout the store and were able to take capture him. Once he was in handcuffs deputies say they located burglar tools as well as broken security tags that belonged to Dunham.
Dawson also had clothing with store tags still on them under his clothes.
In the changing room, deputies located Dawson’s shorts and a plastic bag containing six grams of a white crystal like substance that later tested positive as methamphetamine.
Dawson was transported to the Knox County Jail where he was booked in on the two active warrants and new charges of resisting law enforcement, criminal conversion, and possession of methamphetamine.
