One person was hospitalized Wednesday night after a vehicle overturned on an icy stretch of State Road 17 south of Plymouth on New Year's Eve.
Marshall County Police and Plymouth Fire responded to the area of State Road 17 and 10B Road at approximately 11:34 p.m. Wednesday, December 31, following reports of a single-vehicle rollover crash.
Upon arrival, Marshall County Officer Wozniak located a 1998 Toyota 4Runner on its side in a front yard. He made contact with the two occupants to verify they were not seriously injured.
Plymouth Fire personnel safely extricated both occupants from the overturned vehicle.
The driver, Ashli Tanner of Plymouth, refused medical treatment and reported no injuries.
A passenger, Matthew Ganshorn, was examined by emergency medical services at the scene and transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Plymouth. The extent of his injuries was not disclosed in the crash report.
The investigation revealed that Tanner lost control of the southbound vehicle on State Road 17 just south of 10B Road due to extremely icy road conditions.
The vehicle left the roadway and struck a small tree, causing it to overturn onto the passenger side.
The crash occurred during hazardous winter driving conditions on New Year's Eve. Icy roads contributed to multiple accidents across the region as temperatures dropped during evening celebration hours.
Motorists are reminded to reduce speed and increase following distance when driving on snow-covered or icy roadways.
Tim's Towing removed the vehicle from the scene. Multiple agencies responded to the crash, including Marshall County Police and Plymouth Fire Department.
