The Vermillion County Community Foundation announced a $2,500 grant to the Wabash Valley 83 Cluster, a volunteer group formed through Methodist Churches in Vermillion County.

This funding will support the Free Laundry Day initiative, a program dedicated to providing individuals and families with access to clean clothing at no cost.

Free Laundry Day takes place at Uptown Laundromat in Clinton on the first and third Wednesday of each month, offering up to three free loads per person. Volunteers provide quarters, laundry supplies, and on-site support for four to five hours during each session. The program typically serves 45–50 guests per week and welcomes anyone in need, including residents from neighboring communities.

Launched five years ago, Free Laundry Day began after volunteers noticed the growing number of students attending school in unclean clothing. The initiative now serves single parents, seniors, individuals experiencing homelessness, Hamilton Center clients, low-income households, and anyone facing hardship.

“Each laundry day, our guests are incredibly appreciative,” said Angela Cripe, Project and Community Leader for Wabash Valley 83 Cluster. “It truly is the gift of clean clothes.”
