As SNAP benefits have been put on a temporary halt, many Fulton County families are turning to United Ministries for help to fill the gap.
WIC benefits feed the youngest of our community, those under 5 and pregnant mothers, totaling nearly 800 Fulton County residents.
Don Abbott, Director of United Ministries in Rochester says while the shelves remain stocked at their pantries in Rochester, Akron and Kewanna, donations are always needed. The United Ministries food pantry is open every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Not only does United Ministries of Fulton County Indiana help by providing around 300 families with food each month in their panties, they also help with rent and utilities to those in need that had always been funded 100% by donations and grants.
”We see probably a dozen people a month asking for help with rent. Most people now pay around $1,000 a month when they come in and are able to do so once a year. Same with utilities. Utilities are all high, but electric is the highest right now. Without the funds, we will be unable to help them,” Abbott said.
Although they will accept food donations, the money to help those struggling to pay bills is at an all time low. Every dollar donated to United Ministries of Fulton County stays local, helping neighbors here at home. Those able to donate can do so by sending checks to PO Box 531, Rochester, IN 46975, or at the link provided by.
