The Marshall County Commissioners and County Council jointly passed a resolution unanimously several months ago to designate Old U.S. 31, now Michigan Road, under Marshall County's jurisdiction, in honor of former Congresswoman Jackie Walorski.
Michigan Road will be prominently marked as “Jackie Walorski Road” at various points from the Saint Joseph County line to the Fulton County line.
The dedication ceremony will be held next Friday, August 15, at 9:00 AM, just south of the intersection of Tyler Road and Michigan Road at the Marshall-Saint Joseph County line. The public is welcome. Parking will be available at County Line Brethren Church, at the northeast corner of Michigan and Tyler Roads. Speakers expected to participate include U.S. Congressman Rudy Yakym, along with state and local leaders.
Jacqueline R. Walorski (August 17, 1963 – August 3, 2022) served as a Representative in the United States Congress from 2013 to 2022 and as a State Representative in the Indiana General Assembly from 2005 to 2010.
Marshall County recognizes that Walorski was a leader in strengthening programs for children involved in the child welfare system and providing effective and compassionate services to the Armed Forces veterans.
Walorski’s strong relationships with her constituents and public officials alike persistently resolving constituent issues and fostering a generation of leaders across northern Indiana.
Marshall County commemorates Jackie Walorski’s legacy of optimism, integrity, and passion for public service, along with her steadfast dedication to God, family, country, and Indiana.
