Two people are dead after being involved in a two-vehicle collision Thursday June 11th on Illinois Route 1 just north of the Crawford-Lawrence County line north of Lawrenceville.
According to the Crawford County Sheriff's Department, the fatal mishap occurred around 4:15 p.m. CDT near County Road 100 North when a southbound 2014 Chevrolet being driven by 20-year-old Kaden Meek of Lawrenceville collided head-on with a northbound 2019 Ford whose driver was 35-year-old Braden Doersam of Robinson. Doersam was pronounced dead at the scene while Meek died after being transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance.
Both vehicles suffered extensive damages and were towed from the accident scene and Illinois Route 1 was closed for about 4 hours to allow for the investigation by authorities and clearing of the wreckage.
A cause for the accident remains under investigation.
