The new Shelbyville Central Schools board president is Mike Turner.
The school board met Monday for the first time in 2025.
A new school board president was needed after Troy Merrick, the 2024 president, decided not to run for reelection to the board.
Turner was elected Monday to take over the role with David Finkel as vice-president and Kate Garringer as board secretary.
John DePrez will continue as school board attorney.
Finkel is the board liaison to Blue River Career Programs and Amanda Bunton will serve as board liaison to the Shelbyville Central Schools foundation.
The current school board consists of Turner, Finkel, Garringer, Bunton, James Rees, Dennis Hearne and Andrea Lee.
In board business Monday:
- Approved the 2025 school board meeting dates: Feb. 19, March 26, April 16, May 21, June 18, July 16, Aug. 20, Sept. 17, Oct. 15, Nov. 19 and Dec. 17. The board also approved the first meeting of 2026: Jan. 12.
- Approved an overnight field trip for the SHS and SMS Latin Club to attend the Indiana Junior Classical League State Convention March 13-15.
- Approved the SMS summer school program dates for STEAM Camp (June 2-6) and Writing Camp (June 2-13).
- Approved SCS elementary school program dates for IRead (July 14-25), first grade jumpstart (July 14-25) and kindergarten jumpstart (July 14-25).
