A strong storm system rolled through the region Thursday afternoon and evening and spawned a tornado which struck in neighboring Crawford County (Ill.)
Authorities there say that the twister hit the communities of Flat Rock, Hardinville, and New Hebron south of Robinson resulting in damage to around 12 to 15 residential properties. There were no fatalities reported, but one person was trapped in the wreckage and was injured and hospitalized. County roads between Robinson and Flat Rock were closed to allow for cleanup and continued damage assessment.
The tornado leaped the Wabash River to the east and entered Sullivan and Greene Counties in Indiana where it also did damage.
The National Weather Service (NWS) says that cleanup efforts will be hampered by gusty winds and cooler temperatures over the weekend with the potential for light snow early next week.
