The Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) will begin accepting and processing 2023 tax returns on Monday January 29th, the same day that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) begins accepting federal income tax returns. Lawrence County and other Illinois taxpayers are being encouraged to file electronically as early as possible to speed up processing. In 2023, a total of nearly 6.2 million tax returns were filed in Illinois with close to 5.6 million of those or around 90.3% filed electronically. The tax filing deadline is Monday April 15th, 2024.
