Both Sumner Mayor Betty Brian and city administrator Travis Trainer recently met with other area civic officials to discuss issues of concern with 51st District Republican State Senator Chapin Rose.
Trainer briefed the Sumner City Council Tuesday on the session. He indicated that the topics discussed included the current fiscal status of the state of Illinois, and state funding that is available for local projects. The city has made application to the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) for $400,000 to pay for the repaving of Christy Avenue, a widely-used main street in the city and is hopeful of being approved in the future.
Part-time police officer hire Blaine Winningham is still in officer training and is expected to graduate from the academy in the summer of 2026 before joining the department. His addition will bring the Sumner police force up to three officers.
