Indiana State Senator Ryan Mishler (R-Mishawaka), who represented German Township in Marshall County, made the following statement Tuesday on the state’s 2025 fiscal closeout.
"This year's fiscal closeout puts Indiana in a solid fiscal position. At the end of the 2025 legislative session, our April revenue forecast estimated our state surplus to still be positive, but not as high as I would have liked to see. Due to recently implemented tax reporting measures, today's fiscal closeout estimates Indiana to have a slightly higher surplus than originally reported in April.
"While I am pleased to hear our state is in a positive financial position, we still need to remain disciplined and keep a close eye on our state's spending. As the closeout indicates, Medicaid spending continues to be an issue, and I will continue looking for more efficiencies in our state agencies.
"The fiscal closeout demonstrates a positive fiscal position, and I remain cautiously optimistic regarding Indiana's fiscal standing and dedicated to ensuring we maintain a position of fiscal discipline as we go forward."
